Architecture School Portfolio
I am currently enrolled in Cal Poly Pomona's School of Architecture. I started in 2010 and will graduate in 2014. Below are my projects as I've completed them.
Year 2, Quarter 3, Project 3 - Rincon Fire Station
This project was a fire station located in the mountain region north of Los Angeles. The design ideals centered around passive sustainability features. You'll be able to see some of these influences in the elongated bar design and ventilation.
Year: 2, Quarter: 2, Project: 3 - Japanese Tea Museum
I really struggled with this project and having it turn out the way that I had planned. I really like my initial model (my mid-term design) much more than my final product, but each has their own redeaming qualities. My midterm model is the first one
This is my final model and design
Year: 2, Quarter: 2, Project: 2 - Museum Exhibit
This was a nice project that helped me think about architecture on a Micro (not real micro but in terms of the macro scale of the entire structure) level. Thinking about particular rooms and how each one will feel. The quality of light, and the quality of material. It was a nice project and its perhaps one of my favorite models.
Year: 2, Quarter: 2, Project: 1 - Plaster Possitive & Negative Models
This was a project that started out very annoying yet I think really helped shape how I view architecture. I loved the concept of creating shapes in the cavities of other shapes and using negative space to define the skin of a positive space. As you can see, each attempt is a negative example of the other (where one is possitive, the other is negative and vice-versa)
Year: 2, Quarter: 1, Project: 3 - Aquatic Center - Dana Point
Our last project of the quarter was an aquatic center located in Dana Point. Essentially our program was to develop a facility that would house 2 styles of occupant. The recreational visitor and the more serious user. We had to include a recreational pool, locker rooms, restaurant, and store as well as a gym, a spa, sauna, and massage therapy.
My approach was to direct the vision along the coast to maximize the view. I generated a structural backbone that direction the occupants vision diagonally while protruding the "buildings" through it along this axis. You can take a look at the plans below to get a better idea of the spacial relationships.

After taking a look at the plans above you can now relate them to the model below. This model was built at 1/8":1'-0" scale. It is roughly 4' wide (to give you some scale in reality). Its made out of black foam core board, museum board, and basswood.
Year: 2, Quarter: 1, Project: 2 - Aqua Walk
This was a theoretical project where each student was assigned a space next to another student's and were required to design a place where people could walk amungst the water with the changing tides.
Year: 2, Quarter: 1, Project: 1 - Programatic Case Studies
This assignment was interesting because we were all assigned a topic to generate a diagram for. My assigned topic was Symmetry vs. Balance. I created a graph-style representation of a line representing symmetry on the center of the board, and then a line representing balance next to it. I then took each of the 18 case studies and struck a line through the symmetry line depending on how symmetrical it was, then the same on the balance line depending on how balanced they were. I then hand drew each case study and put in blue boxes to represent the project's symmetry. I really like how this turned out.
Pre 2010 - Preceding Work
Below are examples of some projects that I've worked on in the past at different universities to prepare myself for entering the Architectural Design Program at Cal Poly.
